Who will be attending the CCP Workshop?
This is a workshop for Indigenous planners, as well as First Nations leadership and administrators who are involved or interested in community planning. Normally when we host the workshop in-person, it is focused on First Nations within BC. Given that we’re hosting the workshop online this year, we’re excited to be opening a limited number of registrations to Indigenous planners outside of the BC region as well!
When is the CCP Workshop happening?
The main workshop is happening from Wednesday October 20th to Friday October 23rd, from 9:00am - 12:30pm each day.
Why are there pre-workshop sessions?
The short answer is, the workshop planning team had so many great ideas we just couldn’t fit them all into 3 days! We also wanted to provide some opportunities for people to test out the video-conferencing platform, Zoom, and the other tools we’re using, to get familiar with this new way of meeting before launching into our half-day workshop sessions.
What platforms will we be using to gather online?
For all of the workshop sessions, we will be gathering on the video-conferencing platform called Zoom. Zoom allows us to see and hear each other on the screen, communicate with everybody via the chat box feature, and share screens so participants can see presentations and photos.
We will also be using Slack, a messaging platform, that will allow all workshop participants and hosts to communicate with each other and continue our conversations outside of the workshop hours. Think of it as the social time we would normally have to catch up and talk between sessions in-person!
Do I have to pay for any of the platforms?
No, you do not have to pay for any of the platforms to use them for the workshop. Both Zoom and Slack offer paid versions of their software, but you will not need them.
How do I access Zoom?
The details to access the Zoom meeting will be e-mailed to you before the workshop. During the main workshop from October 21-23, we will be using one link/number for the entire session between 9:00am - 12:30 unless otherwise indicated.
You can access Zoom using a laptop or desktop computer, a tablet or iPad, a cell phone or a landline. The workshop will be fun and engaging any way you decide to join us, but keep in mind that if you call in, you won’t be able to see speakers, your fellow workshop participants, or the visual content we’ll be sharing. If you're feeling nervous, we recommend coming to our pre-workshop session "Zoom and Slack 101" to get familiar with our platforms!
What if I have to leave the Zoom meeting and want to come back later. Can I rejoin?
Yes! You can click the same Zoom link to bring you back to the meeting. You will be placed in a virtual “waiting room” and one of the workshop hosts will let you in. If this happens during one of our breakout sessions, we will message you using the “chat” feature on the Zoom platform to find out which breakout room you would like to be placed back into.
How do I get into the breakout sessions?
Once you’re on the Zoom call, the hosts of the meeting will move you to the breakout room for your pre-selected breakout session.
I signed up for a breakout session when I registered, but my interest has changed. Can I switch to another breakout room?
While we don't have the capacity to accommodate email requests to change breakout sessions, if you change your mind during the workshop, the process for changing breakout sessions will be as follows:
- The host will send you to the breakout room you were pre-assigned to when the breakout sessions begin.
- Once in the breakout room, you will see an option in the bottom toolbar on your screen to leave your breakout room. When you click that, it will bring you back to the Main room.
- There will be a host in the main space. Ask or send a message in the chat box to let them know which breakout room you would like to go into, and they will re-assign you to your new room.
