*Access need: anything you need to make participating in the BC CCP Workshop more accessible.
We are committed to making the 2021 BC Region Virtual CCP Workshop as accessible as possible to all participants, speakers, and organizers, because we know that every person is valuable in community and in CCP. Below are the things that we are doing proactively to make the event accessible, but we also invite participants, speakers, and organizers to contact us with any additional access needs. If you have any questions about accessibility or would like to talk about any access needs you may have to maximize your participation in the 2021 BC Region Virtual CCP Workshop, please contact Andrea Oakunsheyld at [email protected]. If a phone call is more accessible for you, please email Andrea with the subject line “CCP Access” (or similar) and include a call back number for her to reach you at. Andrea is happy to connect about questions up to and during the BC CCP Workshop, but please communicate access needs by September 25, 2021 so that we can meet your needs.

The following information outlines the accessibility of the 2021 BC Region Virtual CCP Workshop.
Registration:
- The registration survey includes an opportunity to share further access needs and contact information is included above to connect about accessibility.

Zoom: We are using Zoom as our main platform, with options to join by phone or online.
- See Zoom’s accessibility information.
- We understand that many Indigenous communities do not have equal access to stable and reliable internet. To help increase access, participants are welcome to join by phone. While facilitation may be imperfect, we are committed to facilitating the event in ways that are inclusive of those joining by phone.
- Other apps or programs may be used throughout the workshop (such as online polling programs), which we recognize may not be accessible for everyone because of limited internet bandwidth. Participation in these activities will never be required to participate meaningfully in any of the sessions. Where possible, we will include a Zoom chat-based option to participate without opening multiple applications.
- We will put discussion questions on a slide and/or in the Zoom chat box to support participants to both read and listen to the question prompts.
- Live captions will be available on Zoom during the workshop.
- ASL interpretation will be available on Zoom during the workshop.
Slack: Outside of Zoom we will be using slack to connect, which is an online communication application. It can be accessed on a computer as an app or in your browser, as well as an app on your phone. Read more about slack’s accessibility.
Participation: We will also ensure that there are a variety of ways to participate including:
- Sharing perspectives through unmuting and speaking.
- Participating through ASL.
- Participating through the chat: facilitators will read out all chat box comments to ensure everyone accesses the information in the chat. The chat can be used to share questions, ideas, and comments or to share resources that will be collected by the support team to be shared after the event.
- Participating with video on or off.
- Participating through listening, and sharing perspectives on slack and/or after the event.
- More ways of participating may be available in various breakout sessions.
Cultural supports: We are committed to creating a safer space for everyone to gather that recognizes the strengths present in the CCP community while also offering spaces for connection, healing, and wellness. In order to do this, we will offer:
- Elder support for those wanting to speak to an Elder during or after the workshop each day.
- CCP Mentor support for those who may want to spend a few minutes with a kind listener.
- The number for the Indian Residential School Survivors Society (IRSSS) support line: 1-800-721-0066
- Grounding and cultural components throughout the workshop offered by Indigenous facilitators and community leaders.
